Last year I was given an opportunity to design the logo for the 2023 MBA Games held at SFU. The theme was Decolonizing Business. I tried to choose images that would work for everyone, not just our Indigenous people, images easily understood by all participants. At the time this was a stand alone art project for me to work on. Later that year, as a student at SFU and an MBA candidate, I found myself a member of the SFU team competing in the games. It was wonderful to see my art being used on such a large scale. All participants had a canvas bag with the logo and of course it was on the website and other pamphlets and things for the games. It was certainly a proud moment for myself as my art has never been reproduced on such a large scale.

If you are wondering, we didn’t win overall, but we came out second. Not a bad placement for the first ever all Indigenous team in the MBA Games!

The following is the write up I did for the Logo publishing:

About the Logo:
The goal in designing this logo was to symbolize the ascent and enduring presence of Indigenous business leadership. By skillfully incorporating recognizable symbols from both societal factions, the aim was to create a logo that resonates with a broad audience, promoting relatability and inclusivity. The logo seamlessly blends iconic business imagery with symbols deeply rooted in Indigenous communities. It begins with a recognizable graph arrow, gracefully transforming into a turtle, symbolizing the sacred Turtle Island and exemplifying the rise of Indigenous business leadership. Emphasizing the profound importance of feathers to Indigenous peoples, the design conveys a range of meanings, including honor, strength, wisdom, freedom, and spiritual transcendence. The bar graph element represents the continuous growth and transformation as Indigenous communities gain prominence in the business sector, taking on more significant roles and spaces.
